A small labret or lip plug which is painted red on one side and inlaid with a small piece of haliotis shell. The labret is deeper than it is wide, and has what appears to be grease stains on its sides.; Good
Double headed rattle. The birds have thin pointed beaks, and flattened tops to their heads. The eyes are round and inlaid with haliotis. The body is globular with small projecting wings and a squared-off tail which has a faint black edge at the rear. The handle is lashed together with cherry bark. The rattle has had wood worm at some point in time.; Good condition but very fragile.
Clappers very finely carved in the form of a killerwhale. The killerwhale is expertly executed with U- forms and deep inlaid (haliotis) ovoids. Its mouth is painted red, and there are fins close to the sides of the body, the dorsal fin has a small humanoid face where the blow hole would be positioned, suggesting transformation. The tail is also the face of a bear with the bifurcating tail being its ears. The clappers are painted red, blue-green and black. The handle narrows, making the flexible join necessary to produce sound, the two pieces are pinned with a copper nail. The killerwhale section of the clappers are hollow.; Good
Two ivory soul catchers one inlaid with haliotis. The soul catchers are beautifully carved with U-forms and ovoids, the double headed creatures having gaping mouths. It is difficult to identify the creatures, it has been mistakenly assumed they are sisiutl (G.Crowther).; Good
A very fine mask of a woman carved in wood with inlaid haliotis shell eyes and teeth with a labret in the lower lip. The mask has prominent black eyebrows, a shapely nose with incised nostrils, the eyes are inlaid with discs of haliotis. The maskhas stylised ears which are painted red, and the open mouth has one remaining piece of haliotis, and the lips are also painted red. The mask has elaborate asymmetrical face-painting designs in black and pale blue. Part of the face-painting appears tobe fin-like and stretches across the nose and one cheek, having a cross-hatched portion and an eye. The upper edge of the mask is slightly damaged.; Good
Carved spoon consisting of a large sheep horn bowl nailed to a carved mountain goat horn handle. Depicted from top to bottom: dorsal fin of a killer whale on the top of a human-like figure whose legs are also the tail of the whale. The side fin is positioned behind the tail which is resting on the head of the whale. In the whale’s mouth is an upside down human; the two figures are sharing a tongue. The whale’s eye is inlaid with abalone shell.
Headdress with frontlet. Frontlet depicts eagle with killer whale above and human-like face below. Painted black around eyes and beak, blue around mouth, red on forehead, side of face, mouth, and claws. Mirrors inset for bird eyes. Frontlet is inlaid with abalone shell pieces around three edges, with an extra, smaller, row on sides. Shell pieces are tied on. Ermine pelts, some with red cloth tied to them, drape down at the sides and back. Only a few sea lion whiskers still extend at top.
Silver cut out brooch carved in the design of a killer whale with large circular inlaid abalone eyes; inlaid bared teeth, dorsal, pectoral and tail fins. Detailed with stylized forms. Large pin clasp on the back.
Red wool dance shirt with appliqué and beading. The shirt has a round neckline and long sleeves. Around the neck is a ‘H’ shaped appliqué panel. There are black appliqué panels around the neck, cuffs and bottom hem. The panels have beaded floral motifs with shell button centres and are edged with green trim. The inner lining is green material.
Carved, wooden speaker's staff, or talking stick, with six figures in colours of black, red, green and brown. Abalone shell pieces are inlaid on all of the figures. Top figure is a supernatural eagle, or Kolus, in human-like form, with a crooked beak and a labret. Below that is a human wearing a three-ringed hat. His body morphs into a whale, whose mouth touches the back fins of a sea lion. The bottom bear figure is mounted on top of a short, cylindrical base.
