The stationary plate shows a vibrantly coloured, printed image of a clown in three poses, dressed in red, blue and yellow. The background is black. Parts b and c are panes of glass with blotches of black paint carefully placed to intermittently hide elements on the stationary slide as they move past it, allowing the clown to do a cartwheel. The frame is built to accommodate the moving slides, having large grooves in each side for the plates to slide, and semi-circular finger holes which enable the user to grasp the movable slides. A deep grove has been cut horizontally into the wood on the back of the slide, with a small metal clamp opposite. The plate shows a coloured image printed on glass of river with small rapids. A man stands on the bank fishing. Behind him and to either side of the river are bushes, and tall buildings with white or yellow walls and red roofs. A dark sky with clouds and a full moon can be seen at top centre. Stamped in wood: "W.E. & F. Newton / Opticians & Globe Makers to the Queen...London"

On the frame’s back right, a large triangular groove is carved into the wood to allow for the up and down movement of a brass handle attached to the rear plate by a brass ring. The front plate shows a coloured, printed image of a man and woman harvesting wheat. The man holds a scythe. The back plate has a printed image of the man’s arm, his hand holding a whetstone. When the plate is moved by the lever, it appears that the man is sharpening the scythe. Stamped into wood is "W.C. Hughes / Optician / 151 Hoxton St / London".

A man in ragged clothes walks by with his small dog. The back plate has a printed image of the man’s arm, hat in hand. Pair of metal binoculars. Eye piece assembly is made of brass, with a black patina. Below it at centre sits a rigged focussing knob. The barrels are covered in a hard black leather and flare slightly toward the objective lenses, which are lined with moveable tin tubes that have a pattern of incised, encircling lines.

Round ceramic inkwell has a small circular base below a large plate decorated with encircling lines of gold and green paint, and a scalloped rim. At its concave centre is a round pedestal of concentric circles, flaring out at top where a metal and ceramic lid opens on a metal hinge, revealing a deep inkwell inside. Pedestal is also painted with lines of green and gold.
