Designs consist of curved lines that end in swirls; smaller lines throughout that connect longer curved lines. Triangles and "X"'s in the negative space; larger triangles done in orange-brown, other designs done in black. The curved lines are bordered with solid and dotted lines. Designs are inside a rectangular border; done in orange-brown with black solid and dotted trim. Back of tapa is undecorated; maker name on label stapled to back.

Fertility Figure3652/1

Carved wood female fertility figure with an elaborately painted face. Figure is wearing a long grass skirt and has a heart-shaped face with protruding ears, a large nose, and open smiling mouth; the eyes are inset cowrie shells. Face is painted white with semi-circles, floral and curvilinear designs, and comma-shapes throughout, done in red; eyes and nostrils are bordered with small white triangles. Ears have two grass ties knotted through each; similar grass tie knotted through figure's nostrils. Carved with large breasts, flat buttocks and pronounced shoulder blades; genitals carved in relief and highlighted with red pigment. Her arms and legs spread straight out from her body; grass ties around wrists and ankles. Each limb has two decorative bands carved into them; bands consist of two ovals bordered by wide bands; done in brown, red, and white. Small hole drilled into back centre of head.

Basket3652/8 a-b

Circlular basket with flat base, and separate lid (part b). Basket body made up of coil construction, bound together with plant fibre stitching. Design formed with stitching is rows of alternating dark brown-black and yellow-white triangles. Arched handle extends overtop small circular basket opening; attached to flexible stick(?) that's woven to basket body. Handle is made up of four braided bands of plant fibre that split towards ends, creating "V"-shaped cutouts on either side of basket. Base decorated with concentric circles; done in dark brown-black, and brown-red. Lid has a small lip, deep flange, and wide circular knob. Main lid body made up of similar coil construction; flange consists of flat piece of plant fibre wrapped in smaller pieces. Lid has concentric circle design in dark brown-black, yellow-white, and brown-red.

Comb3652/4

Concave comb with eleven long teeth extending from an elongated, trapezoid-shaped handle. Three decorative triangular cutouts in middle of handle; alternating up or down triangles in a row. Exterior of handle is dark brown; interior of handle and teeth are yellow-brown. The exterior, smooth surface of the bamboo has been carved off the outside of the teeth.

Small clay pot with a flared neck and wide shoulder which tapers in to a raised circular foot. Incised designs around the neck of repeating dots, and on sides - a column of repeating turned v's bordered with three solid lines and one dashed line on either side. This is repeated three times, with incised information between each design - 'Papua New Guinea', 'Bilbil Village', and 'Madang Province'.

Pot3652/2

Red clay pot with burn marks throughout. Pot has a flared neck and wide, steep shoulder, that tapers to a rounded base with three stout legs. Pot has two beak-spouts on either side of circular opening; spouts and neck have ridged sides. Dots and lines border bottom edges of openings; dots done in relief, lines are incised. Edge of shoulder is decorated with two rows of imprinted dots. Columns of chevrons are incised on main body of pot, and on shoulder; columns point towards one another. The place made information isincised into side of pot: 'Papua New Guinea', 'Bilbil Village', and 'Madang Province'.

Necklace3610/1

Turtle shell necklace. Composed of 16 pieces of highly polished turtle shell that increase in size from the back eye hook clasp to the centre with a large double-sided opalescent white shell pendant. The smallest shell pieces are rectangular. The larger pieces are rhombus-shaped. The largest pieces next to the pendant also have one curved edge - the edge nearest the pendant. The opalescent shell is adhered to an oval piece of turtle shell. The shells are attached by small metal loops through drilled holes. On the smaller pieces, the holes are centered but, as the pieces get larger, the holes are offset to one edge.

Oval basket with handles. Flat oval base with raised edge. Basket made of coiled flexible sticks(?) bound together with plant fibre stitching. Overall repeating diamond pattern on both exterior and interior worked in darker colours. Attached rounded handle is composed of four firm sticks(?) stitched together, with the outer two pieces plaited. Two woven handles with openings on opposite sides.
