Carved and painted wood figure of a man in colonial African cothing. The man wears a white pith helmet with a dark brown button on top of it. The man’s face and the rest of his skin is dark brown. In the left side of his mouth, he holds a small cigarette made of plastic. He wears a khaki uniform. The shirt has a collar, rolled-up sleeves and pockets on either side. There are four buttons down the front of his shirt. He stands with his hands in the pockets of his khaki shorts. His khaki shorts are secured with a dark brown belt and have two pockets on the back. His torso is quite long in proportion to his legs; only a small portion of his calves are visible underneath his shorts. He wears white socks which are pulled up high. He also wears light brown shoes. The man stands upon a dark brown, round base.
Engraving tool. Blade-like steel graver has diagonal cut at one end and comes to a point at the other.
Pear shaped orange clay owl with white slipped and burnished body is covered with a hand painted brown feather motif. Tiny orange feet with brown painted toes peek out at base. Eyes are thickly underlined, from open beak to orange conical ears, and there are three dots at the back of the head.
Necklace of beads, snakes and cross. 96 cylindrical red glass beads and 91 smaller round flat white beads alternate in a pattern. 4 double snake and 4 single snake pendants alternate between the beads on the lower half of the necklace. The double snakes cross over at two points. All snakes are attached to bead strand by rings through the mouth. They are etched with cross pattern along their length. A Lorraine cross with cloverleaf terminals hangs from the centre point. A sunburst is engraved in the centre of the top bar. Curvilinear marks on vertical and lower horizontal bar. Maker’s mark JA on snakes and AB in a circle on lower bar of cross.
Masonic-shape brooch with raised bosses on edges, one semi-circular cutout on each side of the top half, four semi-circular cutouts on each side of the bottom half and irregular-shaped cutouts in the centre. Engraved decorations and punch marks. Maker’s hallmark in round cartouche. Cross-pin turned through small circular cutout on edge of large cutout.
Necklace with 90 glass beads, 18 green glass beads, one blue bead, 2 red and black cylindrical beads, 8 flat turtles and one thick Latin cross with short cross bar and rounded ends. Turtles have cross-hatched engraving and the Jost hallmark. Cross is also engraved and has a stamp 'Boyer' on it. Necklace is threaded on string.
Flat crescent-shaped gorget engraved with American eagle with branch in right claw and arrows in left claw. Banner in eagle’s beak with words. Twelve stars surround eagle’s head. Two holes in upper edges through which beaded necklace is secured. Beads are mainly red with white beads interspersed and one blue bead at centre back. Maker’s mark in rectangular cartouche.
