Reverse: two figures, standing and facing front; to left, Andronicus I, who has a beard; he wears a loros, a jewelled and embroidered scarf; to right, Christ, who has a halo; Christ raises his right hand above Andronicus I’s head in order to crown him; to left, inscription says ‘AN’; above, it says ‘IC’; to right, it says ‘XC’; beneath that, it says ‘NIKO’.

Reverse: two figures, standing and facing front; to left, Andronicus II; to right, Michael IX, his son and co-emperor; to left, inscription is difficult to decipher, but most likely says ‘CIHIAIU’; to right, it is illegible. Coin is slightly concave.
