Kavad Shrine2587/2 a-k

A miniature mobile temple with several doors, each painted with various folk deities and text, appearing to tell a story. The last door concludes the narration, opening with a darshan of Ram, Lakshman and Sita, standing in the innermost chamber of the temple. The sides and ends of the shrine are decorated with floral, ray and cross-hatching motifs. There is a small drawer under the doors and a compartment in back for worshippers to deposit coins (see Cultural Context field). A leather strap is attached to the top. There is a shrine (part a), a sliding panel (part b), and doors (parts c-k).

Rectangular calendar print depicting Ganesha, Shiva and Parvati seated with a white bull, Nandi, lying in front. Ganesha is wearing a red dhoti, white and blue beaded necklace, along with a red and gold crown. He is holding an object in all four of his arms. Shiva is wearing a yellow dhoti with tiger skin around his waist, red and white garland along with many beaded necklaces. He has a topknot in his hair which spouts a white liquid. Parvati is wearing a red and gold sari with a gold crown. The Himalayas are in the background. Calendar from A & F Harvey, Madura Mills Co., Ltd.. Calendar months are printed around the outer edge. Various company labels are at top and bottom. Metal strip runs along bottom edge. Back of calendar has long text passage printed on it titled 'Sri Sankara'.

Two matching silver bracelets. Alternating shapes of flowers and trees linked together. Small, globular, pendant pieces dangle from rings attached to shapes above. Bracelets are closed by a screw through interlocking loops.

Flexible silver necklace made of interlocking parts. Diamond shapes alternating with double loops. Lower edge has circular divided globular pendants attached by rings with a second row immediately above. Fastener has five globular pieces attached to one ring.

Necklace1724/1

Beaded choker-style necklace primarily consisting of white, opalescent beads. Beadwork design forms a half circle. Attached to each end are cotton cords. Beads are strung onto yellow string. Inner edge of beadwork consists of tight, parallel rows, four beads deep. From there, rows of beads form an intersecting pattern with loops along exterior edge.
