Bronze sitting couple. A man and woman sit side by side on a bench. Both figures have long, oblong heads. The male wears a small hat on top of his head, and has a flat beard that extends out from his chin. The man rests his right hand and on the woman's right shoulder, and the remaining hands are all rested on their knees. The woman is bare breasted and has her hair back or wears a headdress.
Originally thought to have been made by people from the Klamath River region (Hupa, Yurok, or Karok) of northern California, later identified (by Margaret S Mathewson from Oregon State) as from the Siletz Reservation in coastal Oregon and from the turn of the century or late 1880s.Large, barrel-shaped basket with lid, probably a storage basket. Diagonal or 3-strand twined base with single-twined body. Two horizontal bands of white grass overlay with black triangles of maidenhair fern stem. Row of openwork just below rim, where pairs of warp elements have been crossed to form decorative x's. Two rows of single twining at the rim. The lid is bowl shaped, with one horizontal band of overlay matching that of the basket.The Confederated Tribes of Siletz include Clatsop, Chinook, Klickitat, Molala, Kalapuya, Tillamook, Alsea, Siuslaw/Lower Umpqua, Coos, Coquelle, Upper Umpqua, Tututni, Chetco, Tolowa, Takelma, Galice/Applegate, and Shasta.
Small, tightly woven basket with lid. Base rises at centre, with a patterned weave. Round basket has a bulbous body with a decorative stepped line and small triangle pattern below the shoulder in colours of rust and dark brown. Basket rim curves inward, coloured light brown with a small checked pattern at shoulder. A lid (part b) fits onto rim, round, rising toward its centre where sits a small raised finial. Patterning on the lid matches that of the basket.
Large round basket. Tightly woven willow wood basket has a small, flat base from which the wall flares upward toward the wide mouth. A rattlesnake pattern decorates the midpoint: rust coloured diamond shapes outlined in dark brown, with brown border lines running above and beneath.
Large, low-sided basket. Round woven basket has a flat base, from which rises a short wall that flares outward slightly toward the rim. Sides are decorated with two lines of checked patterning in rust and dark brown colours, with a similar pattern along the bottom that also includes rings in dark brown and light yellow-brown.
The basket is round with a lid and has a geometric design in black. Made using the coiled method
