Textile3612/7

Decorative embroidered mattress cover composed of a large cone-shaped red-brown fabric embroidered with large floral designs in circular patterns in red, grey-beige, orange, dark green, purple, and dark purple-blue. The rounded edge is unfinished. A v-shaped red fabric is attached to both straight edges and is embroidered with repeating square panels with geometric designs. The brown edging is decorated with zigzag decorative ribbon. The bottom edge is lined with long fringe in sections of dark brown, maroon, dark green, red, beige, dark purple-blue with white beads at the ends. The cone-shaped piece is backed by a piece of textile with a red and beige paisley pattern, the v-shaped section is backed with red fabric.

Small handmade rug with military imagery: Kalashnikov rifles, helicopters, missile launchers, tanks, hand grenades, fighter jets; all woven in black, brown, green, red-brown and grey on an off-white background. At centre, inside the light grey-brown outline of Afghanistan, is woven 'AFGHAN MOJAHID ZINDA BAAD'. To the right, other texts are inserted. The central design is bordered with a frame of green with red-brown. Long off-white fringe extends from short edges.

Doll3612/10 a-e

Standing female doll (part a) wearing a red and white floral patterned dress. The dress is secured with a single snap fastener at the back of the neck. She wears long white pants under the dress with ornate floral ribbon around the hems. She wears a thin white veil (part b) with a head covering (part c) overtop which covers most of her torso at the front and extends to her ankles at the back. The head covering is blue with blue decorative embroidery on the front panel. Her black embroidery floss hair is braided and secured with an orange hair tie with a single pin holding it in place. She wears leather sandals (parts d-e) with silver metallic straps. Her eyes, eyebrows, mouth and nails are painted on and her nose and ears are sewn.

Donkey Strap3612/2

Donkey strap. Long thin woven textile with black and white designs with opalescent plastic fibres included. The black and white designs flow through sections of repeating diamonds, stripes, chevron, hourglass, x's and other geometric designs. Edged with thin bands of alternating blue and red rectangles along either side. There is short fringe on both ends.

Doll3612/11 a-d

Standing male doll (part a) with hands at his sides. He wears a light grey tunic shirt with matching pants and a brown open-front vest with vertical stripes. The tunic has two clear buttons securing the front of the shirt. He wears a pinkish-beige hat which is secured in place with two straight pins, over black hair of embroidery floss. His eyes, eyebrows, mouth and nails are painted on and his nose and ears are sewn. He also has a white cotton with black plaid neck scarf (part d), and a pair of black vinyl sandals (parts b-c) on his feet.

Black short-sleeved woman's blouse with a back neck closure. Front and sleeves of blouse are heavily decorated with embroidered floral motifs. Diamonds, filled with geometric motifs, are spread across front. Sleeves decorated with floral and geometric bands. The embroidery is mostly done in dark pink with light green, orange and white highlights throughout. Back is undecorated. Additional pink and green floral fabric around armpits, connecting sleeves and body of blouse.

Shirt3448/50

Long-sleeved velvet shirt with embroidered panel on chest. The designs are made from couching down thread. The panel has a red rectangular centre with five large circles. It is then outlined twice with bands of flowers and wavy lines. Between each section is a thin band of repeating V's in dark purple or orange with light green, dark pink and light purple. The panel is edged with orange and light yellow-orange ribbon. The panel is split in the centre to follow the V-neck of the garment. The neck is bordered by grey velvet on each side, and hemmed with orange. The interior is unlined except for silk(?) at the open neck, but edges and seams finished with black lace ribbon.

Sheep skin vest with light tan-coloured embroidery. The tanned leather is embroidered with floral and geometric designs. The interior is lined with white sheep's wool, which leaves a fringe of wool extending out around all of the edges of the vest.

Single legging of woven cotton cloth covered entirely with embroidery in deep red silk with additional designs in dark blue, orange, dark green and light green silk thread. Copper(?) metal thread embroidery between each of the outer two bands of plaiting. Side with seam decorated with pounded metal discs with a simple floral mark at centre and one metal button. Backed with woven cotton cloth.
