Bag916/3

Large, square, flat envelope style bag made of a cotton patchwork textile with multi-coloured embroidered trim. The patchwork- made of red, yellow-green, green and brown strips- forms a pattern of concentric squares; alternate strips are embroidered in ladder stitch, using red, yellow and pale pink floss. The bag is made by folding and stitching three corners of the patchwork square together, leaving the fourth corner open as a flap. The seams that join the three corners are reinforced with embroidered motifs. The patchwork textile is quilted onto a finely-striped dark blue and tan cotton textile. No provision is made for fastening the flap.

Textile915/15

Wall hanging or bed cover (roughly square in shape) made from four panels, of boldly patterned silk and cotton warp face ikat textile, stitched together side by side along their selvages. Designs are bright pink and yellow on white background (patterned silk warp, white cotton weft). Light blue selvages show at the seam lines. Each panel measures approximately 41 centimetres wide, and the textile has a slight sheen. The hanging or cover is edged on all four sides with narrow bias strips of machine printed cotton textile (multicoloured floral designs on black background), and is backed with plain off-white cotton muslin that has been pieced in many places. The ikat side is quilted onto the backing, using red-orange thread. There are some black, indecipherable markings on the backing. A 4 centimetre strip of unbleached cotton textile has been hand sewn to the backing along one edge.

Textile915/4

Rectangular, multi-coloured silk bed cover or wall hanging. It is constructed of five-colour silk warp-face ikat textile (dark red, yellow, red, blue and pale pink), which forms a ‘frame’ around a large rectangular panel of yellow-green shot silk textile (yellow warp, green weft). Loosely quilted by hand at 55 cm intervals onto a backing of machine-printed off-white and orange cotton gauze. There is a lightweight layer of cotton batting between the layers. The silk ikat textile has been pieced together in many places. Bound on all four edges with bias strips of silk and cotton ikat textile. A strip of white cotton broadcloth, 4 cm wide, is hand-sewn along one short edge, and there are small fibre loops attached at two corners (one made of narrow gold braid, the other of white and blue printed cotton textile).
