BowlA8061

Light brown wood dish in the form of a flounder and inlaid with turquoise beads. The pupil of the eyes are beads surrounded by a carved circle in tapering oval. The open mouth shows eight bead teeth. The tail has two beads in a vertical line along the top. There are back fins, one at either side of the tail. There are twenty-one beads around the rim. Sixteen beads form a cross within the bowl.

Spruce root basket with convex lid. Plain twined weaving (two strand) with twilled weaving or "skip stitch". Weft winds over two warp strands and is staggered. Four bands, two on sides, two on lid, with two rows of all black weft, several rows of natural black weft and diagonal twined weave in black and natural. The result is a series of arrow-like designs.

Painted wood mask that has a face carved forward in a slant. Nose and jaw project outward. Cut out circular eyes are surrounded by a plain carved tapering oval and recessed with deep sockets. Has a black face with red cut out nostrils, and a slightly parted red mouth.

Chilkat RobeA4454

Chilkat style robe with woven designs and fringe. The design is a three panel distributive. In the centre is an ancestor face surrounded by a diving whale (?) motif. The side panels continue the diving whale motif. The design is yellow, blue and black on natural ground. The two bottom corners have a checkered pattern in black and yellow, associated with the identity of the weaver. There is a long twisted fringe on three sides of mixed wool and cedar bark.

Dance ShirtA6797

Tunic-like painted shirt made from cotton fabric. The shirt is made from a rectangle of cotton folded in half, machine-stitched along the edges to make side seams, leaving 25 cm unsewn for the armholes; 6 cm fringes cut horizontally along the seams. The neck is cut out of the centre of the cloth, with a hand-stitched seam. The main crest on the front represents a double-headed raven with outspread wings painted mainly in black with dark red and pale yellow highlights. The top of the back panel is painted with a creature's face in red and black.

Raven RattleA6796

Unpainted raven rattle with protruding tapered bird beak at one end and long, narrow and spilt tubular handle at the other. There are two complementary parts that join together to form the rattle (held by nails; no wrapped cord). There is a reclining figure on the raven's back that is connected to a frog by a protruding tongue. The back of the tail has a small bird face. The round belly is undecorated other than a thin ridge ending in a carved nose.

Unpainted wooden raven rattle constructed from two complementary parts joined at the handle. Reclining figure on raven's back connected to frog by protruding tongue. Back of tail has a small bird face. The rounded belly has a larger bird face with a recurved beak. The handle is bound in two places with thin, brown bark(?).
