Rod Puppet2872/25 a-d

Panakawan (clown) puppet named Gareng. The head (part a) has a large lump on the back of the neck, below a fringe of black hair and a bald scalp. Painted between the blue eyes are expression lines, above a large hooked nose. The mouth is open and smiling, revealing a single white tooth. The torso (part b) is clothed in village style dress, with a short sleeved plaid shirt and a long checked sarong. The sarong hides a removable wooden stick (part c) that extends through the torso to control the movement of the head and connects the figure to its wooden base (part d). The arms are moveable at the shoulder and elbow by wooden sticks attached to each black gloved hand.

Rod Puppet2872/20 a-d

Three dimensional puppet. The woman’s head (part a) has a green painted face, with eyes that gaze upwards under curved brows. The hair is pulled back from her face and decorated with a triangular, blue headdress and carved gold embellishments. A long sleeved tunic covers the torso (part b), beneath which is a long patterned skirt hiding a removable wooden stick (part c) which controls the movement of the head and connects the figure to its cork base (part d) which is painted black . The arms are moveable at shoulder and elbow by wooden sticks attached to each hand, which are painted gold.

Three dimensional wood and fabric puppet representing a grandfather. The head (part a) has a white painted face with finely carved and painted features, including wrinkles across the forehead and around the mouth. The mouth is open, showing 2 large teeth, and is surrounded by a moustache and beard. Ears and nose are protruding. The head is topped by a round black cap and hair is gathered at the back. The torso (part b) is covered with a long sleeved tunic and a yellow sarong, which covers a removable wooden stick (part c) that controls the movement of the head and connects the figure to its cork base (part d). The arms are moveable at shoulder and elbow by wooden sticks attached to each hand. Hands are painted red.

Rod Puppet2872/35 a-c

Rod puppet named Rama. The head (part a) has a white face with black painted eyes and brows and a red smiling mouth. Pompoms hang from above each ear. Long, luxuriantly curled black hair is topped by a high, elaborate, multicoloured headdress. The gold torso (part b) is partially covered by a beaded, red velvet bib, with a matching apron falling from the waist. Pink satiny flaps hang from the sides of the apron. A long sarong hides a wooden stick (part c) that extends up through the torso and into the puppet’s head to control its movement. The arms are moveable at shoulder and elbow by wooden sticks attached to each hand.

Wearing a grey grassy patterned batik (?) skirt on a brown background. The arms are riveted at the joints with red fabric and have a wood marionnette stick. The head is separate - the neck fits into a hole in the shoulders of the body.
