Pipe Bowl representing Owl80.98.2

Catlinite or pipestone pipe bowl carved in the form of an owl perched on a rectangular bar. Beak, tufts, eyes, and legs carved with details of eyes and feathers indicated by incised lines. The back of the bowl, under the bird, is carved with a serrated edge and turns up at the end as though that owl had a tail. The area around the opening in the owl's head is blackenedmining rights are for Native Americans.A pipe stem would be added to this bowl for smoking.Catlinite is only found in the Minnesota region in what is called Pipestaone National Parkk. Use of pipestone is restricted to Native Americans.

Headdress2783/1

A headdress with a beadwork head band trimmed cap made of skin and beige fabric from which extends a crown of long brown eagle feathers. Each feather has an attached diamond-shaped piece of burgundy velvet fabric with white down feathers at the tip and the bottom ends are wrapped with green and red felt-like fabric and attached to the cap above the beadwork with skin loops. The head band has a design of mountains and crosses in red, green, orange, blue and pink on a white background, a large metal pin at the centre, and strands of metal, plastic and seed beads draped around it. From each side of the cap hang feathers, red ribbons with plastic hoops, bundles of dark hair, and strands of brass beads.

Wrist Band1003/33

Band composed of beadwork with a pattern of multicoloured stepped chevrons on white. The chevrons are bordered by a row of green, orange and white triangles along the top and bottom edges. The band is lined with blue fabric and a strip of black elastic band joins the ends.

Purse-style bag with a six-sided shape and a flap at the top on each side. The bag is ornamented with a multicoloured beaded design on both faces interspersed with metal sequins, and with a red fabric border to which is attached a fringe of looped blue beads. There is a band of light pink silk at the mouth and a brown strap attached at the top corners.

Beadwork Pouch1003/69

Garment with beadwork and tassels. The garment is square shaped with a brown pocket slit in the centre. A long band is attached at both ends to the top of the square. The sides are edged with dark green trim. Beadwork covers the entire surface of the band and square. The beadwork has floral motifs in pink, red, yellow, white and blue, vine motifs in blue and large leaf motifs in green on a clear bead background. Attached at bottom are beaded gold and green tassels. The back is lined with brown cotton.

Light leather jacket with beadwork and fringe. The jacket has short standing collar, long cuffed sleeves and centre opening with brass buttons. There are two pockets on the upper front and two larger pockets on the lower front. All the edges are serrated. The cuffs, pockets and upper back yoke have beaded floral motifs. There is a fringe on the upper back, sleeves and sides. Inside, the upper back is lined with cotton.

The front has a flower shapes with star and ovoid centres connected by straight lines, in pink, yellow, blue and green on light blue ground. The back has thick red and burgundy beads strung in a crisscross pattern over black velvet ground. The inner lining is burgundy cotton with a light brown vine pattern.
