Devil costume mask. One eye is a mirror, the other is painted and bloodshot. Fake brown fur is stuck to the face. The mask has three pairs of horns, one red, white, and the largest pair are painted red, green and white (the colours of the Mexican flag), and one single horn painted yellow in the centre of the forehead. Three demon-like figures protrude from both sides of the mask. There is a larger central demon that comes out from the chin area. In place of a nose is a large carved boar.
Round, deep bowl, unglazed and painted with leaves and flowers, repeating swirls and diamonds. The pot stands on three hand-molded, rounded feet.
Textile showing a narrative built using coloured hand-embroidered cross-stitching on a metre-squared piece of white linen. The embroidery is confined to a hexagon shape at the centre of the fabric. The narrative works around the cloth, beginning with a depiction of the sowing of maize in a Yucatecan milpa (maize field) when Veronica (the maker) is a child. The milpa is shown, as is Veronica with her grandfather. They kneel before an altar upon which 9 maize kernels are placed. The later scenes show the embroiderer in her house eating with her family, they show her learning to embroider with machine. The connecting images are of birds and floral patterns typically used for traditional dress (the textiles Veronica’s mother is teaching her to make). The final scene shows a religious procession in Abala. In the background are adverts on the walls of Abala, showing the emblem of the PRI (Partido Revolucionario Institucional).
Finely woven traditional men’s hat, made from toquilla palm (jipi). Hat has a moderately wide brim, with a slightly upturned edge, and a tall rounded top.
Two part dress. Long dress (part a) and an underskirt (part b) with a large lace fringe at the bottom. The embroidery features nearby Becal, in the municipality of Calkini, Campeche. It shows people dancing traditional dances, the women in terno and the men wearing jipi (palm) hats. Elements from the natural environment are also shown, for example red hibiscus flowers, palm trees and other greenery. The underskirt has a cinched elastic waist.
Luzbel cape composed of football shoulder pads, with a long black velvet cape, shoulders covered in light brown fake fur, large carved wooden skulls on each shoulder and smaller plastic skulls. The cape is heavily sequinned with a red devil face, with gold horns.
Pink face mask (part a) with large grey beard, thick eyesbrows and a moustache. Inserted into the mouth is a bejeweled pipe (part b). The mask is composed of animal hide, which has been painted pink. The lower portion has been cut, then stitched together to give the mask its shape. The cheeks are a slightly darker shade of pink. Holes are cut for the eyes, nostrils and mouth. A single small black dot on the mask's right cheek. A length of thin black string is looped through the top centre of the mask.
Pink satin dress with embroidered designs of purple flowers, green leaves and purple birds. The neckline, and sleeves are edged with strips of lace and blue fabric. Three horizontal bands of lace and blue fabric divide the body of the dress. A short fringe of cinched beige lace extends from the bottom hem.
Two part dress. The two parts are a long dress (part a) and an underskirt (part b) with an open weave or lace fringe at the bottom. The fabric is a synthetic-cotton blend. The dress is made from a single panel of fabric, sewn together on the sides with small armholes near the fold. The hem and neckline are stitched in pink. The bib open weave background colour is green with purple, red, blue, yellow, pink diamond design. This design is repeated at the hem of the dress and underskirt. The skirt has ties at the waist.
Luzbel devil costume; large black velvet sequinned tunic (part b), with matching pants (part c). The tunic has a long body, long-sleeves and a large collar. The front has a v-neck with ties, and a large sequinned devil head in light blue, red and other colours, with an upside-down trigon and two triangle designs directly below. The back has a large red and silver diamond design, flanked by two smaller red with multi-coloured devils. Below, snaking sequinned rainbows across the middle and bottom sections of the tunic, with the lower section between bands of sequins and wrapping around to the front. The large floppy collar is completely covered in stripes of sequins. Each sleeve covered in various sequinned designs, with fully sequinned cuffs. The black velvet pants have an elastic waist, and short gold fringe around the pant cuffs.
