Basketry TrayD1.292

Round tray with simple interlocking coiled work and watch-spring base construction and parallel slat sides. Three strand braided border on rim. Top row of sides is looped to form two handles. Two concentric six jointed stars in black bark, yellow-white grass and red bark (two stitches of each).

Cylindrical basket (a) with slightly flared sides and a flat, fitted lid (b). Simple interlocking coiled work (bifurcated stitches) watch-spring base and lid construction, overcast splint rim. Slat flange on lid. Buckskin handle. Partial imbrication, continuous patterns. Lid has a seven pointed tri-colour star figure in centre with small tri-colour diamond figures around edge. Sides: two horizontal tri-colour bands which combine to form large diamond figures.

Large flared, rectangular coiled basket (bifurcated stitches) with elongated watch-spring base construction. Upper half is imbricated in cat-tail grass (?) with designs including elongated bow-tie like shape, with diamond in center, outlined in black cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?). Corners have "flying goose" pattern in bands of red and dark cherry bark. Rim has intervals of red and dark cherry bark stitches. Lower portion of basket has double parallel rows of zig-zag in cat-tail grass (?). Rawhide front and back loops and handle.

Part (a) Round narrow coiled basket (bifurcated stitches), watch-spring base and lid construction. Imbricated design of cross motifs in red cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?) and black cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?). Alternate colour 'V' shape above each cross. Part (b) has lid with knob. Imbrication of tapered squares in black cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?), and red cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?) with dark cherry bark on bottom.

Continuous vertical diamond striped in black/bullrush/red. (five per side, four per end) with red/bullrush fillers - stripes, three stitches wide, alternating in colour with every two coiled rows. Colour: tan.
