BasketD1.393 a-b

Basket base (a) and lid (b) constructed in simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with a watch-spring base and lid construction, and partially beaded. Decorated with a series of two vertically connected almond shapes alternating with short vertical lines extending down from the shoulder of the base. The almond shapes alternate in red and black and have off-white bulrush where they join. The design is bordered by a dotted line at the shoulder and bottom edge. Every fourth row is beaded in black on the lid.

Rectangular coiled basket (bifurcated stitches) with looped row under rim, and a coiled handle. Parallel slat base and side construction. Imbricated designs, on long sides are wide vertical band of alternating rows in cat-tail grass (?), dark cherry bark, cat-tail grass (?), red cherry bark, and dark cherry bark between two more rows of cat-tail grass (?). Flanking this are two narrower vertical bands of red cherry bark half-triangles connected and on a background of cat-tail grass (?). On short sides are two dark cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?) checkerboard bands, but center design differes. One has same narrow band as long side, the other has a geometric scrollin cat-tail grass (?) with row of red cherry bark at center.

Fully imbricated in cat-tail grass (?) with three rows of zigzags, in dark cherry bark, cat-tail grass (?) and red cherry bark, connecting to give a lattice of diamond shapes. The foot has three rows of beaded red cherry bark.

Rectangular, woven, tan-coloured basket that flares upward and outward. Simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with elongated watch-spring base construction and partial imbrication. Vertical striped design in red/black/red cherry bark and white/red cherry bark/white grass alternating with a stripe of black/white/black and red/black/red. Four vertical rows on each long side and three vertical rows on each short end. One row of beading on the base. Pattern does not cover the four rows near the base.

Imbricated design is a beaded rim, "y" shapes with thick stems in cherry bark and white cat-tail grass (?) sit on a red horizontal border. Vertical rows of cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?) are below red horizontal border, and lower border of beaded cat-tail grass (?) is at bottom.

Rawhide loop and one string loop are at either upper corner of one long side with another string loop in the middle of the upper portion of the other long side. Decorated with partial beading, every fourth row is beaded with three rows of black, one of red, four rows of black, one of cat-tail, and one row of red cherry bark.

Partially imbricated with horizontal bands of two red cherry bark ribbons with black crosses, and cat-tail grass (?) centres, alternating with vertical black cherry bark bands, in between. Bottom two rows, which include foot, are two ribbons of cat-tail grass (?) with red cherry bark crosses with cat-tail (?) centers, alternating with vertical red cherry bark bands. Foot is partially imbricated with red cherry bark crosses with cat-tail grass (?) center, alternating with vertical bands of red cherry bark.
