Woman's Brush Dance Skirt06.331.7923

This skirt would be worn wrapped from back around the sides. The open front would then be covered by a fringed apron. This skirt shows signs of much wear. Most of the materials it is made from are from local sources with the exception of two copper discs, shaped and cut like the abalone. All the ornaments in addition to being aesthetically pleasing would make a sound as the woman moved in the dance. A small blue bead is fastened in the fringe.

Small rounded basket-like piece with a dark brown geometric design on a natural light yellow-brown background. Design consists of a central dark brown horizontal band that has outward pointing negative space triangles alternating at either inner side of the band with the upward pointing negative space triangles having a dark brown upward pointing triangle below the band while the downward pointing negative space triangles have a dark brown downward pointing triangle above the band. Rim has vertical beading.

Wide, slope-sided, round tray with overlaid yellow-brown bear grass design on a brown ground. From the rim, there is the following: a brown continuous zigzag on yellow-brown band; a brown band; a narrower yellow-brown band; a narrow brown band; a wide area of brown interlocking triangular stepped design on yellow-brown; a narrow brown band; and the centre is overlaid except it is now torn at the centre. Outside is undecorated but shows some bear grass.
