Knife3635/7

Short knife consisting of a stone biface blade with antler handle. Blade is triangular with a rounded point; tang inserted in between two pieces of antler. Antler pieces have flat interiors, with carved notches where tang fits, and rounded exteriors; making handle cylindrical. Pieces of handle are attached with metal rivets and sinew lashing.

Round beadwork mat, or roundel, with scalloped edges. Central design of large, yellow sun-like decoration with a smaller dark blue sun inside. Smaller sun filled with concentric circles and checked bands; done in dark blue, yellow, and green. Solid and checked circular bands surround smaller sun; done in light blue, green, dark blue, and yellow. Space between large sun and edge of mat done in dark blue; outlined in yellow. Scallops are decorated with horizontal blue and maroon stripes; outlined in yellow, maroon and blue bands. The maroon and blue beads extend past edge of mat. Back of mat covered with grey fabric.

Beaded rectangular belt with two hook and eye clasps; done in blue with a light purple border. Beaded panel consists of central design with mirrored patterns on either side. Central design consists of two abstract, maroon floral motifs connected with a row of circles. Plants are done in maroon with green and red trim. Circles are green with yellow outlines; central yellow circle outlined in green and red. Second design consists of two arrowhead-shapes pointing towards one another with circles on either side; done in orange, red, yellow, green, black, maroon, and silver. Designs on outer edges consist of central four-petaled flowers framed with more flowers with leaves; done in dark blue, yellow, red, white, maroon, and black. Back of belt lined with floral patterned fabric.

Gloves3635/3 a-b

Pair of gauntlet-style hide gloves with flaring cuffs that cover the forearm. Long fringe extends from outer edges of cuffs; small triangles protrude from outer edges of section that covers back of hand. Cuffs are entirely covered in beadwork panels. Central designs are of golden horses inside black horseshoes on light blue ground; horses have light grey manes and white spots on their foreheads. Golden triangles extend from edges of the light blue section; black beads fill rest of space on cuffs. Sleeves of gloves have straight and zigzag beaded lines; done in gold with black outlines. Interior of cuffs are lined with striped fabric; rest of gloves are unlined.

Baby Carrier3635/2

Baby carrier, or cradle board, with beaded top and cover. Back piece is made of flat wood board, with a rounded top that narrows towards base; board covered in hide. Design on beaded top consists of a grouping of five flowers with stems and leaves; done in red, dark purple, dark blue, and green, with yellow and red highlights throughout. Motif done on a white background; area outlined with maroon triangles, trimmed in dark blue. Bottom half of the board has a hide pouch with laces and cotton-lined collar, into which a baby can be placed. Black cloth cover overtop pouch has a large beaded flower with leaves and stems; two smaller flowers extend from petals of central motif. Designs are done in white, dark blue, red, light blue, and green. Cloth cover outlined with white triangles. Back of board decorated with long pieces of fringe, towards top; hide strap, lined with mint green cloth, attached to back, towards centre of board.

Fishing net made of knotted hide cord, which is bundled with a length of cord wrapped around the centre. Some cord fits through a small rectangular toggle made of antler.

Gloves3027/2 a-b

Pair of beaded hide gloves, or gauntlets. A fringe falls from either side of each gauntlet. A large red flower is beaded onto the top of the hand, with green leaves and small round blue flowers to the bottom. All are surrounded by a white bead border. Glove top has matching beaded flowers and foliage in red, shades of blue, yellow and green, also surrounded by a white border. The underside is decorated by stitching in concentric rectangles.

Moccasins3027/1 a-b

Pair of ankle height beaded hide moccasins. The hide is supple and medium brown. Inside ankle is lined with unbleached cotton. The top of the shoe and outside of the ankle piece are fully covered in beading, including a white background and motifs of stars in blue and orange, and triangles in green, red, blue, orange and yellow. The border has lines of black and white.

Basket2909/1

Birch-bark basket made from a single piece of bark, rectangular at the base with four sharp corners. It is stitched together at each end. The mouth is rounded and scooped, with a spruce stitched rim. The exterior is smooth and holds several scars and irregular growths in the wood. A repeating pattern of leaf designs is etched into the bark and encircles the basket. The bark of the interior is rough and flaking.

Open rimmed birch bark basket, sewn at sides with pale yellow root strips and stitched around rim with pieces of reddish-brown bark underneath and woven into strips of pale yellow root. Decorative row of plant motif designs around two longest sides. Darker side of bark on outside, paler inside. Signed, dated on base.
