Bow2948/140 a-b

Wooden bow. The bow is slightly curved upwards at either end and glossy in appearance. There appear to be three very lightly carved rings or marks around either end. The bowstring, part b, has two fibrous, woven ends that form loops to fit on the bow.

Bow2948/139 a-b

Wooden bow. The body of the bow (part a) is slightly curved with blunt ends and a bundle of woven fibres fixed to one end. The fibres are woven loosely enough to allow some movement of the bundle along the bow limbs. The bowstring (part b) is misshapen and stiff with fraying of wood fibres along its length, and two woven loops at either end. The loop that is unattached to part a has a long frayed end with many wood fibres hanging loose.

Bow2948/138 a-b

Wooden bow. The bow has a smoothed surface with a carved point at one end and two sections of woven fibre at either end. At the obtuse end there is also a wrapped ring of thicker plant fibre, probably serving as a rest for the bowstring. The bowstring is slightly misshapen and bent in sections. The ends are formed into loops which are fraying and loosened. One loop is smaller but has been separated into many thin, woody strands.

Bow2948/137 a-b

Wooden bow. The body of the bow has a carved circular bulge or platform at one end where the woven looped end-piece of the bow string rests. Attached to the bow limbs are two small circular rings of woven fibres set slightly in from the ends, which are carved into points. The bowstring has only one woven loop, and the other end of the bowstring is misshapen and bends upwards to a broken point where the other loop would have existed.

Pipe2948/136 a-b

Wooden pipe. The larger piece (part a) is decorated on the middle third with two thin bands of painted, cross-hatched design on either side of a reddish middle panel featuring intertwined abstract designs. At the centre of these design are triangles containing hourglass shapes. The designs are outlined in dark brown pigment and filled in with many parallel horizontal lines. At one end of part (a) the wood is coloured darker than the rest of this piece and wrapped in a thick band of synthetic fibre. Part b is undecorated aside from a small band of stylized ‘v’ shapes. There are ash remains inside both parts. Both parts have tape wrapped around them, one at the end, the other at midsection.

Pipe2948/134 a-b

Wooden pipe. One piece (part a) has a band of decoration near the midsection, consisting of incised and pigment-filled abstract patterns of curved, straight, and intersecting lines. At the base of this band is another smaller band with roughly circular dot incisions. The end adjacent to the decoration has a distinct mottled texture and is darker in colour. The opposite end has been whittled down to the interior layer of wood and is darker in colour. The other part (b) has been slightly whittled down at either end and has two sections of bark preserved in bands around either end of the piece. Some ash remains inside both pieces.

Pipe2948/133

Wooden pipe. Large pipe consists of one open end and an opposing rounded end with a small circular opening. The outside surface is decorated with linear designs. The exterior is riddled with small holes while the interior retains some ash, particularly at the rounded end. There is a white band of paint(?) running along the midsection of the pipe.

Wooden pipe. One piece (part a) has a smoothed surface, red-brown in colour, and is undecorated. The end portion is circular with a smaller, circular opening and carved letters. Part b is light yellow-brown in colour and is similarly unadorned. Both parts of the pipe retain some ash material inside.

Belt2948/109

Feather belt. The belt consists of a waistband of woven plant fibre decorated with an overlain undulating, woven band of fibre. The borders of the waistband as well as the raised band are decorated with red pigment while the waistband itself is unpainted. The thicker end of the waistband is stained a darker hue than the rest. Extending from the waistband and attached to it by strands of fibre are numerous long white, black and speckled feathers. The feathers range in size and quality of preservation. The feathers are attached to the waistband in groups of twos.

Seed headband. The headband consists of three parallel, joined bands of seeds strung on synthetic fibre. Both ends of the headband consist of woven plant fibres, which are knotted together.
