Ceramic plate ornamented with a snake and lizard in grass, in high relief. Topside in shades of green and grey; underside is dark brown. Highly glazed. Oval stamp on underside reads "F. Gomes D'avellar Caldas da Rainha"; incised number '9' underneath the oval. Foot ring has two holes in it, through which a loop of rough cord is knotted.
Originally listed as Spanish by the donors, however the stamp on the bottom, as well as the style, shows it to be a Portuguese plate from Caldas da Rainha.
