Description

Tan basket with two coiled handles. Simple interlocking coiled work (some bifurcated stitches at sides). Parallel slat base construction with foot one slat wide. Overcast rim with a looped area to attach handles (cross stitches under loop). Partial imbrication. Isolated figures on the sides and the ends. Sides have a central diamond figure in red/white/black/white/red (centre) with four bilaterally symmetric geometric figures in red and white. Ends have one central figure composed of six chevrons in red with some white filler.

History Of Use

The type of basket used for shopping according to Sto:lo basket makers during a visit to the Museum of Anthropology on July 4th 2000.

Iconographic Meaning

The design on the ends of the basket is called flying geese.
