Basketry Tray Item Number: A3428 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Description
Circular coiled cedar root basketry tray. Inside of tray has a red maple leaf decoration in the center of a circle of black 'arrow head' shapes. The exterior surface of the sides are imbricated and beaded with red cherry bark and grass. Simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches), and watch-spring base construction. Two wood slats form the sides. The handles are coiled.
Iconographic Meaning
The central motif represents a maple leaf, and the other designs represent arrowheads.
