Description

Small face with large recurved nose. Nose raised by adding extra piece of wood. Five small extensions radiate from head. Colours are red, green, black and white.

History Of Use

Said to be a sun mask. "This mask was used in the background of other masked dances" [Axtsiqaic (Agnes Edgar), Deadman's Creek Reserve, 1972].

Narrative

Purchased from Davenport Clayton in 1959. Collected by his parents while operating a store in Bella Coola between 1890 and 1910.
