Basketry lid of simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with parallel splint construction and a flange. Two rows of continuous beading in red around rim; parallel beading alternating in cherry bark and crabapple bark with each slat.

History Of Use

Collector's catalogue states "very old basket. Rare shape. Used for wedding outfit of bride."

Iconographic Meaning

This basket features a design known as flight of the geese according to Sto:lo Elder and basket maker Rosaleen George. This is a popular design with Sto:lo weavers.
