Description

Cast bronze standing female figure with flat, square base. The flat, oval-shaped head has raised facial features - eyebrows extending down to the nose in a Y-shape, almond-shaped eyes, and small mouth. The head is framed by metal, that curves outward on both sides by the chin. They have a long neck, short torso with prominent breasts, back and buttocks. They have a twisted belt around the waist. The limbs are very long, with both arms and legs slightly bent, and hands down at the side. There are 3 pairs of bands or bangles on each arm.

Narrative

Marcel Ollivier was the French Consul General posted to Freetown, Sierra Leone, c. 1960s-1970, during which time he purchased this collection of objects (2853/1-9). He later finished his diplomatic service in Vancouver as French Consul General from 1982-1986, after which he retired to England. The objects were donated to MOA by his daughter-in-law.
