Head Cloth Item Number: 3587/52 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Woman's head cloth composed of three distinct fabrics with each side ending with very long tassels. The middle section of black fabric is folded and partially stitched on the sides, creating a section that unfolds and expands. There is a section of dark teal fabric on one side, and a brightly coloured patterned fabric on the opposite side that has a line of silver sequins stitched on with bright pink thread. Extending from the fabric are long red and yellow tassels that are decorated with Job's tears seed pods.
The donor wrote a book on Palaung (Palong) people who crossed into Thailand: ‘The Palaung in Northern Thailand’. Written by Michael C. Howard and Wattana Wattanapun, published by Silkworm Books in Chiang Mai.
