Calligraphy Item Number: 3601/5 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Calligraphic work on paper; done in horizontal orientation. Design consists of white characters tightly interwoven and overlapping at different angles across light grey surface. Undecorated border along all sides. Inscriptions written in bottom left corner on front and across back of paper; manufacturer's mark blind-embossed in bottom right.
These works were given as a gift to the donor's mother, Amina Mirza, in Lahore in 2017, by the artist. The artist states: "I have focused on writing Surah Yaseen using interweaving techniques by overlapping traditional Thuluth script in a contemporary way to give a fresh look to this artwork of mine."
Qalam's work is done free-hand, on a pencil grid.
