Description

Large circular basket with an angled opening. Walls gently slope into a rounded base. Concentric flower pattern begins in centre bottom, extending to outer edges. Flower has eight petals and a large circle in the middle. Pattern is visible on interior and exterior. Basket is golden brown, designs are done in brown-red.

Used for grain or food storage.

Iconographic Meaning

Heart of the Palm design.

Narrative

Said to be a prize winner in 1979 at the Botswana Museum of Natural History in Gabarone.

Basket is formed with woven strands of grass, wrapped in mokola palm fibre.
