Description
Mask with trunk-like projection extending forwards from top of the head. Mask built on a wood frame, lined with woven plant fibre. Heavily decorated with cowries and areas of beadwork on forehead and around side. Face has cowrie shell eyes outlined with beads, and a wooden nose and mouth. Bottom edged with plant fibre, which has been split into finer pieces below the face.
History Of Use
Moshambwooy mask represents Woot, the founder of the kingdom, the first man, and the father of initiation. It can only be used by the Kuba king.
