Byzantine coin of Alexius III, 1195-1203. Obverse: bust of Christ, facing front; he has a nimbus cruciger around his head, which is a cross within a halo; to left, inscription says ‘IC’; to right, ‘XC’; there is a second inscription on each side; to left, ‘KE’; to right, HΘEI’. Reverse: two figures, standing and facing front; to left, Alexius III; to right, Saint Constantine; each wears a loros, which is an embroidered and jewelled scarf, and a divitision, which is a military tunic; each of them also holds a labarum, a military standard; to left, inscription says ‘AΛE’, followed by a backwards ‘Σ’, then ‘IW’; above, it says ‘ʘ’. Coin is concave.
