Coin Item Number: 3095/1488 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Byzantine coin, possibly of Alexius I, 1081-1118. Obverse: large cross; there are either floral designs or letters in the four quadrants of the cross, but they have lost too much surface detail to be legible. Reverse: bust of an emperor, most likely Alexius I, facing front; he wears jewels around his neck, possibly as part of a loros, which is an embroidered and jewelled scarf; to left, he holds a sceptre or military standard. Coin may have been overstruck.
“Tetarteron” ? (denomination).
