Description

Byzantine coin of Leontius, 695-698. Obverse: bust of Leontius, facing front, with short beard; he wears a loros, an embroidered and jewelled scarf; to left, he holds a globus cruciger; to right, there is a cross; inscriptions are illegible. Reverse: large ‘M’; to left, ‘A[N]NO’ in a vertical position; in exergue, ‘CON’. Coin has been overstruck. There is some debate about whether this type of coin belongs to Leontius or Leo III.
