Byzantine coin of Heraclius, 610-641. Obverse: two rulers standing and facing front; Heraclius is on the left; Heraclius Constantine, his son, is on the right; each wears a crown with a cross and holds a globus cruciger in their right hand; between their heads, there is another cross; above, there are two more heads, each with a halo; to left, inscription says ‘DNIVSTI’ along with another inscription that is illegible; to right, inscription says ‘DNI’. Reverse: large ‘M’; to left, ‘ANNO’ in a vertical position; to right, ‘IIII’ in a vertical position; above, cross; beneath, ‘B’; in exergue, ‘NIKO’. This coin has been overstruck, causing confusion on the obverse. The inscription to the left on the obverse indicates that this coin was originally from the reign of Justinian I or Justin II. The inscription to the right on the obverse, which begins the same way as the one on the left, indicates that this coin has been overstruck twice, making Heraclius the third emperor to mint this particular coin.
