Description

Byzantine coin of Phocas, 602-610. Obverse: Two rulers standing and facing front, both wearing crowns; Phocas is on the left, holding a globus cruciger; Empress Leontia is on the right, with a halo, holding a long cruciform sceptre; between their heads, there is a cross; to left, inscription says ‘ONFOCA’; to right, ‘NPEPA’. Reverse: large ‘M’; to left, ‘ANNO’ in a vertical position; to right, ‘I’; above, cross; in exergue, ‘THEϤP’, with a diagonal line after the ‘P’.
