Dipper Item Number: 2990/51 a-b from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Description
Orange-brown compressed ovoid greyware bowl with an in-curving rim and eight double reed-stamped concentric circles with central dots evenly spaced around the body on the exterior. The dipper has been completely broken and reconstructed, and there is a hole in the side of the bowl where the shot handle (part b) would have attached. Approximately 2.5 cm of the handle's base is missing.
Narrative
The Paracas culture began about 900 B.C.E. with the introduction of Chavin influence. This thick-walled greyware does not exhibit obvious Chavinoid iconography. This form does not appear on the north coast until the close of the Early Horizon, so it is evidently southern in origin.
