Black humanoid mask with protruding forehead, recessed eyes, hooked nose, and pursed, red lips; eyebrows and head have bear fur trim. Facial features are red.
History Of Use
Large Dzunuq!wa mask; the dancer would have a basket on his back; treasure, dlugwe', of Tlha'sala (M. Martin, 1951; J. Dick, 1966).
Narrative
Mungo Martin said he saw it used c. 1900 and that the dancer was Alice Hunt's grandfather (1951).
Iconographic Meaning
A black mask with pursed lips indicates the mask represents Dzunuk'wa.
