Tumpline Item Number: A2.109 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Wool tumpline with horizontal triangular pattern in red on tan background, woven on a bark warp. The ties are braided and knotted plant fibre (possibly birch?).
Woven tumplines were often used with burden baskets, or for holding bundles. In order to free both hands for collecting or climbing, the woven band can be worn across the forehead, holding the basket at the back.
