Description

Bag composed of a roughly square black cotton body embroidered with a band of geometric design in white wool at the centre bordered by a band of red and white wool embroidery depicting a series of humanoid figures above and a band of red wool embroidery depicting a series of horse figures at the bottom. Each corner has a protruding rectangle of fabric with a fringe emerging from the bottom. A wide black fabric is attached at either side of the mouth to form a strap.

Gifted to MOA by Chinese minorities delegation in July 1984; made on Hainan Island, by a Hlai, or Li, weaver.
