Description

Man in a purple striped kimono on a blue background. The man is facing forward and his head is turned to the left side. He is holding a roll of fabric ? that has a pattern consisting of bronze-coloured gold shapes with a silver-coloured geometric star-like-shaped pattern on a purple background. Two vertically rectangular shapes are above him with the innermost one at a slight downward angle having yellow and brown shapes within while the other one has a picture of an archer sitting with his legs crossed. The print is vertically rectangular.

Narrative

The print is signed Kunichika hitusu (国周筆) with a red circle seal known as toshidama-in (年玉印). Next to his signature is a seal of the carver. The human figure and name on the card (image at top right) is Ariwara no Narihira (在原 業平).
