Description

A woman's triangular shawl made of multi-coloured jacquard weave rayon in muted colours. Colour block designs woven in floral pattern with two colours which reverse on the other side. Main design is consisting of a diagonal band along each diagonal side, each having peacocks in a circle in either pale pink or pale black with a pink floral pattern in the triangle above on a black background and a mint green floral pattern in the square below. Edged on two sides with red, yellow, and white silky rayon fringe.

History Of Use

Shawls, or the fabric for making them, are generally imported from India, or elsewhere in Asia, and purchased at a store. Photographs show them worn tied around the neck with the fringe showing at the shoulders and down the back, or draped loosely over the head under the hat or cap, or draped over a hat and tied under the chin.

Collected from Mrs. Siegrid Johanson-Labba by Wilhelm Helmer, along with 737/1-2 and 737/4. The items were probably worn together.
