Description
Elliptically shaped wooden rattle with straight, thick handles protruding from both ends. Each handle has a flat knob-like end and string spooled around it. The rattle itself is painted with two faces in red, black and white.
History Of Use
Used in ceremonial dances. The ties and shapes at the end keep the dancer from losing grip during the dance.

These rattles (1258/1-2) were owned by the late hereditary Chief Fred Williams (Hopetown, Sullivan Bay). They were last used in 1945 and there are existing photographs. The rattles were in Elsie Williams' possession after the death of Fred Williams.
