Dentalium Necklace Item Number: ET1226-0 from the National Museum of Natural History
From card: "Dentalium necklace with black beads."From typed card with artifact: "Dentalium ornament. This specimen was found assigned a t-number (T-1226). The original number '711' appears on the fourth row of dentalium to the right of the end sewn with blue print cloth, sixth shell from the top. This appears to be an original # rather than a cat. # because cat. 711 corresponds to a N.W. Coast ear pendant collected by Gibbs. The specimen was found within the Plains Indian collection. Due to the combination of dentallium with the strings of solid black beads, the object is probably not Plains, but Pacific coastal (Salish, etc..). Though identification is not possible at present, this piece should be taken from the Plains until a proper tribal designation can be found. 7/23/84 Lee Miller."
