Used in driving stakes to support the weirs for eulachon water game."This object has a glued on label on one side from "[B.] C. & Alaska Indian Bazaar. 43 Johnson Street, Victoria, B.C. [Canada]", from which Emmons presumably purchased it. Also, carving on one side resembles a frowning face.Listed on page 49 in "The Exhibits of the Smithsonian Institution at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, San Francisco, California, 1915", in section "Arts of the Northwest Coast Tribes (Tools)".
