Narrow woven strip with very long braided ends. Hand woven in cotton with brown, black, blue, and red line design.

History Of Use

Tumplines are usually tied to baskets or bundles of cedar bark and used when both hands are needed for climbing or collecting. The woven band is worn against the forehead.

Narrative

Raley, the collector, was Principal at the Coqualeetza residential school in Sardis BC. His catalogue listed this piece as a "Cultus Lake Woven head band for packing burden baskets."
