Loom Item Number: Sf1150 a-c from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Description
A loom (part a-c) with an unfinished woven belt. The design consists of stripes of brown with cutout figures on a red, white, green, brown, pink, fuchsia and purple striped ground. The textile is attached at the top to a large rectangular shaped wooden piece with rectangular notches on either end; attached to the block is rectangular woven back strap. The bottom warp are looped onto a fibre rope. Intertwine in the multi-coloured warp are ten cylindrical shaped heddles of varying size. Separate to the loom is a rectangular shaped beater with angled ends (part b) and a cylindrical shaped pick with tapered ends (part c).
Narrative
Made by Concialina Lauriano in Viques, a small town about a half hour by bus from Huancayo. Bought at Kamaq Maki, which is a cooperative association of artesans in Huancayo on April 7, 1982.
