Bulbous vase-like jar with vertical neck and slightly flared rim; slightly lopsided. Underglaze blue designs of cranes and animals in landscape scene; rim has geometric designs.

History Of Use

This bulbous jar was likely used to hold wine. The underglaze porcelain technique and the use of cobalt blue were introduced to Korea from China during the Ming dynasty (1368–1644). They were originally reserved for royalty, and later for elites, as well. The style of this jar is representative of blue-and-white porcelain produced in eighteenth-century Korea.
