Slit Gong Item Number: Ib471 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Indonesian slit gong or Kentongan wood drum from carved in the shape of a figure with a cylindrical shape body and a flat bottom. The top has a bulbous head with a carved face with incised eyes, nose, mouth and ears. There is a semi-circular ridge in the top with a hole drilled through the head for hanging. Through the middle of the body is a large slit opening that leads to a hollow interior. There is an incised band around the bottom edge with a stylized design. The band and the head are painted red.
