Description

Long, Indonesian slit gong or Kentongan wood drum carved in the shape of a dragon figure with a cylindrical shape body and a flat bottom. The top is slightly rounded with an incised dragon head detailed with ears, large protruding eyes and a flat nose with incised nostrils. Through the middle of the body is a large slit opening that leads to a hollow interior; opening is in the shape of the creature’s mouth with teeth or scales along the entire length. The body of the drum is the body of the dragon carved in relief with a human figure along with various other dragon-like creatures. There is a hole drilled through the head for hanging.
