Description

Shallow basket woven of grass in natural, dyed shades of red and green. On interior, a red starburst shape radiates out. It is outlined in natural colour. The background is filled in with green fillets. A single row of natural colour finishes off the bottom. The rising sides are a geometric pattern in red, green, and natural, finished off with one row of natural fillets and a second row of 9 cm. Wide strips of red and green.

This is an ornamental basketry tray which is made for market sale. It represents part of Mithila's growing handicrafts industry. These items are usually woven by women.
