Description

Tray constructed of cedar root coilwork with a circular watch-spring coil structure. Imbricated design on the inside of the bottom and outside edge depicting butterfly figures on the inner surface and outer edge with alternating triangular elements at the outer edge of the inside base, all in black and red cherry bark.

History Of Use

A gradual change occurred in Salish basketry from the 1820's to the 1940's with the decline of utilitarian basket making and the increase in decorated baskets, made for sale.
