Description
Heart-shaped coiled basket; watch-spring base construction. Imbricated design of five hearts around outside with a double outline in red and black cherry bark.
History Of Use
A gradual change occurred in Salish basketry from the 1820's to the 1940's with the decline of utilitarian basket making and the increase in decorated baskets, made for sale. This is a berry basket, designed to fit on the hip.
